Stats For October 2009

Lets start off this month by saying…yes, once again I’ve been slacking on all fronts of my internet business.  I did not add many posts nor did I work much on any of my websites.  On the plus side I saw major increases in pretty much every category.

Number of articles published:

Site 1: 10

Site 2: 0

Site 3: 0

Site 4: 0

Total: 10

Income September 2009

AdSense – $269.10

Amazon Associates – $26.34

Total – $295.44

We reached our goal of clearing the $200 mark.  In fact we almost cleared the $300 mark.  I’m going to pull it back in and assume the Halloween season caused much of the added income this month.  I’ll set next months goal at $200 again.

I made some changes on several sites…I added adSense link units to site 2 (they are not converting well so I might remove them).  I changed my affiliate offer on site 4.  I updated my logo on site 3.  Overall I guess I did do a little bit to try and increase income.

Subscribers

  • Blog 1- 1705
  • Blog 2 – 5
  • Blog 3 – 3
  • Blog 4 – not using feedburner

Only bumped up by 76 subscribers this past month.  This probably has to do with lack of posts.  Numbers are usually better when I post daily.   Lets keep the goal at 150 as I’d like to finish the year at 2000 subscribers.

Traffic

Site Usage

Visits = 29,104+ 2,600 + 13 + 348 = 32,065 + 2,802
Page Views =  51,430 + 3,847 + 20 + 539 = 55,836 + 10,832

We came up short on the number of visitors (33K), but we shattered our goal of 52K page views.  As I mentioned last month we had several Halloween articles picking up thousands of pageviews last month.  I don’t expect the same this month although I think I’ll plan out a few Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years articles.  If we’re lucky enough to increase by another 15% this month from our original goals then we’re looking at about 38K visitors and 60K page views.  I totally don’t expect to hit these numbers, but we’ll see.  By the way, our numbers bumped slightly because site 2 got a number 1 listing in Google Images and site 4 started rising in the SERPS.

Here is my month-by-month comparison chart:

Goal Apr 2009 May 2009 Jun 2009 Jul 2009 Aug 2009 Sep 2009 Oct 2009 December 2009 – Projected
Unique Visitors 27,433 21,133 19,827 22,184 24,924 29,263 32,065 200,000
Page Views 50,134 36,200 34,826 35,630 40,484 45,004 55,836 500,000
Revenue $173.74 $119.10 $135.75 $142.57 $135.10 $195.06 $295.04 $5,000
RSS/Email List 985 1,094 1,245 1,361 1,510 1,637 1,713 11,000

I think October 2009 is a spike month similar to April 2009.  I’m expecting a drop in numbers in November.  However, I’m still hopeful as I’ve really been slacking on building articles for my sites.

Something else that might hold me back this month is my dedication to working on a new membership site.  On the plus side I think I’m going to have more free time on weekends to work on these projects.  Plus, I might take time off during Thanksgiving to put forth more effort in my online ventures.

Are You Having Google AdSense Issues Today?

Is there a Google AdSense Bug going around?  I don’t about you guys, but yesterday I noticed my page impressions in Google AdSense were spiking (too bad my click through wasn’t doing the same).  I figured…”another spike from StumbleUpon”, but upon further analysis I noticed that my channel numbers did not add up to my total page impressions.  In fact I had approximately twice as many page impressions as I should have had according to my channels.

I dug a little deeper and took a peek at my Google Analytics data and sure enough I had way more page impressions according to Google AdSense compared to Analytics.  One final test…my AWStats.  AWStats were also at a normal level leading me to believe that there was an issue with Google AdSense.

Google AdSense Bug?

My initial thought was that someone copied some of my pages and pasted it into their own site Google AdSense code and all thus accounting for my increased page impression number.  I did some research and sure enough came across a few forums mentioning this possibility.  Hmmm…time to contact Google and let them know that trouble is afoot?  Nope…time for more research.  I went to the Google site and while looking for a contact form I came across AdSense Help.  I searched the forum and found that people were having a similar problem in a thread started yesterday.  Here’s the thread I came across: Unusual Page Impressions.

People in the forum are calling it a Google AdSense Bug, but I don’t think anyone is really sure what we’re experiencing.  My main concern was that someone scraped my publisher ID and I was afraid of a Google Ban.  However, if it’s a Bug or Google just making changes to the way they report AdSense statistics then I’m not really concerned.

How about you?  Is anyone else experiencing this phenomena?  Is this a Google Adsense Bug or something else?  If you know what’s going on or have any theories please let us know in the comment section below.
