Stats For October 2009

Lets start off this month by saying…yes, once again I’ve been slacking on all fronts of my internet business.  I did not add many posts nor did I work much on any of my websites.  On the plus side I saw major increases in pretty much every category.

Income September 2009

AdSense – $269.10

Amazon Associates – $26.34

Total – $295.44

We reached our goal of clearing the $200 mark.  In fact we almost cleared the $300 mark.  I’m going to pull it back in and assume the Halloween season caused much of the added income this month.  I’ll set next months goal at $200 again.

I made some changes on several sites…I added adSense link units to site 2 (they are not converting well so I might remove them).  I changed my affiliate offer on site 4.  I updated my logo on site 3.  Overall I guess I did do a little bit to try and increase income.

Only bumped up by 76 subscribers this past month.  This probably has to do with lack of posts.  Numbers are usually better when I post daily.   Lets keep the goal at 150 as I’d like to finish the year at 2000 subscribers.

We came up short on the number of visitors (33K), but we shattered our goal of 52K page views.  As I mentioned last month we had several Halloween articles picking up thousands of pageviews last month.  I don’t expect the same this month although I think I’ll plan out a few Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years articles.  If we’re lucky enough to increase by another 15% this month from our original goals then we’re looking at about 38K visitors and 60K page views.  I totally don’t expect to hit these numbers, but we’ll see.  By the way, our numbers bumped slightly because site 2 got a number 1 listing in Google Images and site 4 started rising in the SERPS.

I think October 2009 is a spike month similar to April 2009.  I’m expecting a drop in numbers in November.  However, I’m still hopeful as I’ve really been slacking on building articles for my sites.

Something else that might hold me back this month is my dedication to working on a new membership site.  On the plus side I think I’m going to have more free time on weekends to work on these projects.  Plus, I might take time off during Thanksgiving to put forth more effort in my online ventures.

I’m still not progressing quite as I’d like with my web properties.  Yes, pagesviews and uniques are up…Yes, earnings are up.  However, I’m not putting in enough time and effort.  I need to get more diligent with newsletters and posts.
That being said lets get to the numbers

Yay! I cleared the $150 dollar mark this month and almost cleared $200!  Dare I set a new goal of $200…I’m not too sure it’s attainable, but we’ll take a shot at it.

Still no clickbank conversions.  I’m going to look into a blog redesign this month to try and increase affiliate conversions.

There were some spikes here and there on blogs 2 and 3, but we ended on a down note.  We increased our total subscriber number by 129.  Lets shoot for 200 again this month.

Wow! Our goals were 29K and 47K.  We reached our visitors goal, but fell short on page views.  The reason numbers were up is because we have a holiday specific article that’s been getting hit that will probably continue through the end of this month (can you guess the holiday).  Said article is getting a lot of StumbleUpon traffic and that is why the increased visitors is not equating to a large increase in page views. Do you think we can have another month with 15% increase.  That would put us at a goal of around 33K visitors and 52K Page Views. Lets go for it!

Those are some lofty December projections.  I’m sticking with what I said last month:

Honestly, I’m going to hope for a 15% growth rate between now and the end of the year.  That would put more realistic December traffic numbers at around 45K Unique Visitors and 72K Page Views.  I guess I was feeling ambitious several months ago after our April traffic spike.  Secretly I’m going to hope for 50K uniques and 100K Page Views by the end of the year.

I’m going to set forth some hard numbers this month:

Blog 1: 20 total articles with a marketing effort on 4 of the twenty following TDC backlink program.

Blog 2: 8 total articles no marketing effort.

Blog 3: 12 total articles with a marketing effort on 4 of the twelve following TDC backlink program.

That’s a total of 40 articles plus I anticipate an additional 40 backlink articles.  It’s going to be a crazy writing month, but I think I’m up to the challenge.  We’ll report back at next months stat session.

Things didn’t go quite as planned during the month of June.  I didn’t get nearly as many posts up on my sites and to add insult to injury I didn’t completely finish the development/design of the two websites I was working on.  Anways, enough excuses lets get on to the stats and goals for next month.

Income – June 2009

AdSense – $123.40

Amazon Associates – $12.35

Total – $135.75

My AdSense totals were going strong through the middle of the month and I was looking like I was on pace for my goal of $150.  However, the end of the month my revenue and pageviews began to sputter possibly due to the low number of posts.  I’m going to stick with the same goal for June and shoot for $150.

The final total for my three blogs is 1245.  I exceeded my goal of 150 for the month with a whopping 151 new subscribers.  I could definitely have done much better had I produced more articles and done more marketing.  Lets go a little more aggressive this month and shoot for 200 subscribers.

I know my numbers are down, but I can attribute that to two things.  First, I haven’t worked on my sites as much as I want to.  I had one post on one site, two posts on another, and 8 posts on the third with no marketing efforts.  This month I’m going to set a goal of 1 article every weekday of the month per blog.  That amounts to the magical number of 69 total post for the month of July that’s versus only 11 total posts during the month of June.  I’m hoping that will bump the numbers to a higher level.  Also, we had a little issue last month when upgrading to WordPress 2.8 and our Google Analytics plugin.  Needless to say the plugin failed and brought down the admin panel on my WordPress blog.  Google Analytics was down for about 1 days and we saw a drop in stats.  Minus the Google Analytics snafu we were probably up slightly from May’s totals.  Probably something like 22K Visits and 36K Page views.

Lets stick with last months goal 25,000 visitors and 45,000 page views.

So overall the number’s are down for a second consecutive month. I have no one to blame, but myself. Rather than focusing on the numbers I plan on making a concentrated effort on producing more content and put some emphasis (vs none last month) on my online marketing efforts.

These stats are not for this website, but for a conglomoration of websites I am currently working on.

This is my first official month for reporting stats and offering some analysis. Up to this point my biggest concern was generating traffic to my main website not monetization. After about 1 1/2 years of blogging I’m going to start work on monetization and complementary web properties.

Income – May 2009

Adsense = $106.80

Amazon Associates = $12.30

Total Income Earned during May 2009 = $119.10

Not a staggering total, but at least I cleared the hundred dollar mark. I’ve joined several other affiliate and pay per click programs, but until this point I’ve followed the path of least resistance (probably not the best way to make money). However, the good thing is I already have accounts with some of the major programs including Chitika, Clickbank, and Commission Junction. In the coming months we’ll hopefully see some income from these programs as well.

My ultimate goal is to offer products of my own. Hopefully that will come to fruition by years end.

Lets go easy on ourselves and shoot for an income goal of $150 next month as I plan on hopefully seeing an increase in dollar totals on our flagship site, but no income on the other 5 sites..

Subscribers

My subscriber numbers mainly revolve around my newsletter subscribers. For some reason it has been difficult getting RSS subcribers, but I think that may just be the nature of my niche…that is…those who follow my niche are not usually web savvy.

I busted over the thousand subscriber milestone and increased my subscriber count by 109 new subscribers. We’ll keep tracking and lets go with a conservative goal of 150 new subscribers for next month putting us over the 1200 mark. I should be able to get around the same or more subscribers through my flagship site in addition 50 subscribers for my 5 other startup sites shouldn’t be a reach.

These totals all come from my flagship website and does not include stats from the other 5 sites I’m currently working on. Next months totals will include statistics from all six sites so hopefully we’ll see a good bump in all of these numbers.

Lets shoot for 25,000 visitors and 45,000 page views. That should also bump my Pages/Visit slightly.

After checking my monthly chart everyone probably thinks I’m a failure….how can you drop in all your stat categories…significantly and consider the month a success. Well, if you look a little deeper into my April stats you’ll notice that I had a bit of an anomaly that month. We had one page that would normally generate no more than 100 visitors receive over 10K visitors. I won’t go into detail, but we happened to be in the right place at the right time notching a huge spike in our traffic.

If we compare this month to March totals then we notice almost identical stats which is pretty good considering I only added 7 posts in May and 3 posts in April.

What Do Google Analytics And Mark McGwire Have In Common?

What do Google Analytics and Mark McGwire have in common? Yeah, I know it’s a question only a nerd would know or even want an answer to.

So, why am I even pondering such a question. Well, I was reading Google Analytics 2.0 and I came across this short paragraph about Mark McGwire that really caught my attention in light of the recent allegations from his brother about his steroid usage.

Here’s what I read:

…Comparing what a good analytics package does to what a good site-stats package does is like having Mark McGwire bat right before the Little Leagues’s MVP. One could be kind and say it’s a Major League to Little League comparison, or like putting a man next to a boy, but the truth is that analytics are like site stats on steroids.

This quote was in reference to AWStats and Google Analytics. Obviously Google Analytics is Mark McGwire in this analogy and the author is getting his little jab in on his thoughts on Mark McGwire’s steroid usage.

Anyways, if you’re a nerd like me then I just thought you’d find this humorous as well.
